Phelisa Sikwata is a young poet from CapeTown (Mfuleni). In 2016 she joined CYPHERs Ixhanti Saturday School Programme which afforded her the opportunity to be part of the poetry productions Ndikhululeni and Imbewu Yesini(2016). Her work has featured in the Imbewu Yesini anthology (2016), Next Generation Speaks Global Youth anthology (2017) and SEEN exhibition (2017).
In 2017 Sikwata was part of the Cape Town BNV/Brave New Voices team which took place in San Francisco, where she also featured on the Queeriosity Showcase. With the 2017 Cape Town BNV team, she featured on the Dreaming Feminist Futures Symposium (2018) where she
also subsequently chaired a Feminism, Media, Performance and Art panel discussion. She has featured on the Rioters in Session (Historical Glitch). Currently she’s curating her debut show ‘inQ.U.E.E.R.ies’; that centres Queer narratives which piloted at the 2018 Naked Word Festival.
