Dyondzo Kwinika is a South African writer. His work stays close to memory, family, masculinity, and the emotional weight carried across generations, grounded in township life and everyday realities. The writing draws on silence, fragmentation, and rhythm to attend to interior life and social history.
He is the winner of the inaugural DALRO Can Themba Merit Award for his short story ‘Mr Duiker Sang the Blues’. His work appears in When Water Wants To: The DALRO Can Themba Merit Award Short Story Anthology and has been recognised among the Top 50 Remarkable African Short Stories of 2025. He has also been longlisted for the 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Buried Between Breath and Rock.
Kwinika has presented at both international and national literary festivals, including the 2026 Bergen International Literary Festival, and has appeared at the 29th Time of the Writer Festival in Durban.
He is currently working with the Market Theatre on adapting ‘Mr Duiker Sang the Blues’ for the stage, with its premiere scheduled for 10 September 2026.
He is also an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, bringing legal discipline into conversation with literary practice.
