Open Book & the Power of Poetry

The Book Lounge and the Fugard Theatre invite you to Open Book Festival
6 – 10 September 2017
#cocreatePOETICA – all you need to know!

PLEASE NOTE: OUR PRINTED PROGRAMME IS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE BOOK LOUNGE!

We are delighted to be collaborating with #cocreateSA on the 2017 edition of #cocreatePOETICA.
The festival is packed full of poetry events that range from workshops to discussions to performances!

The Slam is a highlight each year and we are currently in the process of identifying who is going to be competing for the Cape Town Slam Champ title through 3 PRELIM Slams. The first took place earlier this month and was a huge success (more here)! Be sure not to miss the next 2 PRELIMS or the Final on Saturday the 9th September.

Thanks to InZync Poetry for working with us to make the Slam series a reality!

InZync is curating 2 other events on the programme, the first of which is the always popular ‘INKredibles: Young Voices in Performance’. The second is of course the annual InZync Session, this year titled ‘Embracing Space’. They have performed to sold out venues in the past 2 years, so book your tickets to avoid disappointment!

Key to #cocreatePOETICA are the Dutch performers who will be joining us. Akwasi, Dean Bowen and Sjaan Flikweert will all be involved in events throughout the festival. A large part of that involvement is a 3 day set of journeys that we have planned with them and some of the most exciting local poets. Space, language and identity are the themes that will be explored and we expect the results of this collaboration to be exciting. They will be discussing the process and reading some of their work at ‘Journeys with Poetry’ on Saturday the 9th September.

Other highlights of the #cocreatePOETICA programme include Grounding Sessions curated by the always wonderful Roche Kester and we are incredibly excited that we are for the first time hosting Lingua Franca who will be presenting the Naked Word Session.
