LOOK WHO’S JOINING US AT THE 2026 OPEN BOOK FESTIVAL

START YOUR
FESTIVAL READING

It’s time to stock up on this year’s titles and
get reading!

With the festival only two months away, it’s times to dive into work written by this year’s panellists—here are a few suggestions of where to start.

A big part of the Festival preparation is reading countless manuscripts and from there, curating a list of authors whose work we admire.

These authors join us on stage to not only discuss their books but to share their insight on topics relevant to
all of us.

At twenty-nine, Dominique Olivier’s life was torn apart in an instant. ‘Lessons from Loss’ consumes you in this raw, unflinching story of grief.

A haunting portrait of girlhood and survival in the fractured world of 1980s apartheid South Africa, during a turbulent State of Emergency.

A memoir spanning three generations of one South African family, revealing truths that shaped a child’s understanding of love, belonging, and survival.

Everything, one might say, flowed through sponges. Until it didn’t. Journey through the cultural and ecological legacy of sponge diving.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNER

Over the past month we invited the community to show us what the Open Book Festival journey looks like from your perspective for a chance to win a full weekend pass and a Book Lounge voucher.

We are grateful to all who took the time to enter. Our goal is to encourage change through conversation and none of this would be possible without all of you.

The winner is Aliasgher Janmohammed!

“I had heard a story that you would never receive a response if you never sent a letter. OBF became the moment when I finally started sending
those letters.”
