Zubeida Jaffer

Zubeida Jaffer is an award winning South African journalist, author and activist whose work has appeared in newspapers across Africa and in countries such as Japan, India, the U.K and North America. She is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, Rhodes University and Columbia University, cofounded Number10Publishers Publishers and publishes two important websites, www.zubeidajaffer.co.za and The Journalist, www.thejournalist.org.za. Ms Jaffer’s awards include the Muslim Views Achiever Award, the Honor Medal for Distinguished Service to Journalism from the University of Missouri and the Allan Kirkland Soga Lifetime Achievement Award. She is the first African woman to have won the foreign journalist award from the National Association of Black Journalists in the USA and in 2022, received an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree from Stellenbosch University. Ms Jaffer is the author of the memoir, Our Generation, and two biographies, Love in the Time of Treason and Beauty of the Heart: The life and times of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke. The year 2026 marks her 46^th year in journalism.
