Winslow Schalkwyk

Winslow Schalkwyk is a poet and artist whose work centers on deep, emotional storytelling rooted in personal experience, specifically relationships, longing, and the interior life. Their flagship project, Darkroom: A Collection of Poetry, explores queer love, lust, heartbreak, and the emotional shadows that follow, using vivid, introspective language to probe the lingering effects of intimacy and loss.

Winslow’s work grapples with vulnerability, self-discovery, and identity through the nuanced lens of being queer, African, and Cape Coloured. Currently a committee member of the Cape Cultural Collective’s Writers Club and the organisation’s Central Coordinator, Winslow creates space for truth, vulnerability, and slow emotional reckoning, offering work that isn’t just read, but felt.
