Willem Anker has worked as barman, weaver, security guard and, for two days, at a removals company, but currently he’s a lecturer in creative writing at Stellenbosch University, where he received a D.Litt in 2007. His debut novel, Siegfried (Kwela, 2007), received the UJ debut prize as well as the Jan Rabie/Rapport prize. He has become known as writer of much-talked-about plays such as Slaghuis, Skrapnel, Sielsiek, Smag (translation), Skroothonde and Samsa-masjien.

Willem Anker is in 1979 op Citrusdal gebore en matrikuleer in 1996 aan Hugenote Hoërskool op Wellington. Hy het al gewerk as kroegman, wewer, sekuriteitswag en vir twee dae by ’n verhuisingsbesigheid, maar tans doseer hy kreatiewe skryfkunde aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch. Hy het ook in 2007 sy D.Litt aan die US behaal. Sy eerste roman, Siegfried (Kwela, 2007), is met die UJ-prys vir debuutwerke sowel as die Jan Rabie/Rapportprys bekroon. Intussen het hy as skrywer van bekroonde en opspraakwekkende teatertekste soos Slaghuis, Skrapnel, Sielsiek, Smag (vertaling), Skroothonde en Samsa-masjien bekend geraak.
