Vus’umuzi Phakathi is a consummate writer, performer and producer born and residing in the Vaal Triangle, Gauteng. He is regarded by most as one of the pioneers of the South African poetry industry as both poet and producer. He has set innumerable benchmarks including a Best Conceptual Design nomination at the 31st annual Lourie Awards (2008) for his Environment/Genes music video, a Best Poetry Album award at the SABC 5th Annual Crown Gospel Music Awards for the album, ‘Testament of The Poet’ (2012) and a successful tour of two of his one-‐man poetry-‐in-‐performance productions. Phakathi is the founder and executive director of Current State Presentations, the company behind the dynamic poetry house, Current State of Poetry.
