Saskia Goldschmidt worked as a youth theatre producer and trainer of hospital staff before publishing her first book in 2009, Verplicht gelukkig (Compulsory Happiness), an autobiographical non-fiction book about growing up in the shadow of the Holocaust. That was followed by De Hormoonfabriek, a novel that has been translated into several languages, including English (The Hormone Factory) and Afrikaans (Die Hormoonfabriek).
