Mahdi and Nizar Abrahams own and manage Readers Den Comic Shop in Claremont which opened in 1992. The brothers are both avid fans and passionate about the comics scene which is carried on through their business. The growth in the pop culture market saw them open an online store in 2011 as well as a second store in Tyger Valley Centre in 2012. The business specialises in comics and pop culture merchandise, including the latest imported comics, graphic novels, manga, comic supplies, back issue comics, action figures, statues, posters, as well as a vast array of pop culture novelties and merchandise. Readers Den also organises the annual comics event, Free Comic Book Day in Cape Town, which now draws a crowd of some 3000 plus attendees. They also have a small distribution division as the official distributors of Sideshow Collectibles in SA. Readers Den are long standing supporters of the local comics industry and thus carries the widest possible range of independently published South African Comics.
2016 has been a crazy ride for the brothers…the beginning of May saw the first edition of Fancon, the comic con Cape Town had been waiting for!
