Phumeza Mlungwana is a social activist – born and raised in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. She has been involved with the Social Justice Coalition (SJC) for a number of years. She has helped to build the organization into a social movement of poor and working-class people. Under her leadership SJC has undertaken a variety of strategies and tactics including advocacy, litigation, political education, and organizing. She has her academic background in Social Science and, and serves as a trustee on two boards. She is currently a Fellow with Social Change Initiative Fellow and a member of the #UniteBehind Organising Secretariat.
