I began my working life as a cleaner and general assistant, a humble start that grounded me in resilience and commitment. In 1995, I joined the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in a
temporary role as an administrative and finance assistant. Despite the demands of being a mother of four, I was determined to grow, and in 1999, I completed my Matric and secured a
permanent position as a finance assistant at UWC.
My passion for education and advancement led me to graduate in 2008 with an Advanced Diploma in Management (ADM), further equipping me with essential managerial and
leadership skills. My journey as a unionist began during my early years at UWC in 1995. I became an active member and shop steward of NEHAWU, standing for workers’ rights and equitable workplace practices. When I joined the University of Cape Town in 2008, I continued my union work and was honoured to be elected as NEHAWU Chairperson at UCT in 2010 — a position that deepened my leadership, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
Since 2021, I have been working at the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation as a Grant Finance Officer. This role has broadened both my professional expertise and my personal understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusivity. The Foundation’s mission has resonated deeply with my values and reinforced my commitment to creating environments where fairness and dignity prevail.
