Oswald Kucherera was born in 1986 in Nyajena, a large village in Masvingo near Great Zimbabwe. He came to South Africa in 2009 after he was retrenched from Zb Bank, where he was a transactions clerk. Since then he has been living in Cape Town, working at 6 Spin Street, operating a 19th Century wood-panelled lift. The Exodus Down South is his first autobiographical novel. He has had his poetry and short stories published by FunDza Literacy Trust. He is a contributing writer for Science Stars Magazine. He is a human rights peer educator at Africa Unite, and an advocate for the freedom and independence of West Papua.
