Nobukhosi Ngwenya is a junior research fellow at the African Centre for Cities. She focuses on community-based planning and development of human settlements, namely informal land occupations, which have the potential to transform South Africa’s urban fabric. She in particular examines the strategies used by informal land occupiers to claim, and sustain their claims, to vacant and/or under-utilised land and buildings in Cape Town. She is a PhD candidate in the Department of Architecture, Planning, and Geomatics.
