Mogorosi Motshumi has been a cartoonist for over 35 years. He has worked as an editorial and sports cartoonist for varied publications including The Voice, City Press and Daily Sun. He is best known, however, for his monthly four-page comic about township life, Sloppy. He has been working on his graphic autobiography, 360 Degrees, for the last seven years, and it is one of the most substantial works of graphic literature to emerge from South Africa to date. An earlier version of the autobiography, entitled “Hard Rock: A Cartoonist’s Journey” was first published in two instalments in the comics anthology Mamba Comix (ArtworksPublications, Durban, 2006—2007).
