Kirsty Jean was born in a remote part of Zimbabwe and spent her early years living in a fishing village on the shores of Lake Kariba. Here she experienced the untouched wilderness of the Zimbabwean bush, exploring and swimming in the lake, and riding on the back of a motorbike through herds of prolific game with her mom, dad, and Aunty Annie. These early years left an indelible mark on her life and her love of adventure and the desire to connect with nature. Her favorite recreational activity is scuba diving where she gets to explore the magic of the underwater world.
This is her first illustrated children’s book and it was inspired by her youngest son Beau who was obsessed with sharks. Whilst researching for this book she began to understand the plight of sharks and saw the magnitude of destruction happening to our oceans and wanted children to learn about the importance of sharks and the vital role they play in keeping oceans healthy. And she wanted to use her art to make a difference.
