Keely Shinners is a writer, editor and performer based in Cape Town. She is the author of the novels Archeology of Angel (2026) and How to Build a Home for the End of the World (2022) as well as the chapbook The Agonies and Ecstasies of Saint Marguerite (2025). Her essays have been published in a wide range of publications, including e-flux, Artsy, and the Chicago Review of Books. Together with Dominique Cheminais, she runs Girls Gallery, a project space for contemporary art. Previously, she served as the editor of ArtThrob and the Chairperson of the Association for Visual Arts. She is the front woman of the punk band Ugly Baby and DJs under the pseudonym Baby Lunatic. In 2025, she starred in Norma Jeane Baker of Troy, a play by Anne Carson directed by Ben Albertyn, with whom she won a Social Impact Arts Prize Fellowship.
