Helen Macdonald is a writer, poet, illustrator, historian and affiliate at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge. Her books include Falcon (2006) and Shaler’s Fish (2001). She has a long standing love of falconry and following the death of her father, she made the decision to train a goshawk. H is for Hawk is the book of that experience, and has won the 2014 Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction as well as the Costa Book Award.
