Glen Thompson is a research associate in history at Stellenbosch University. He writes on race, gender and cultural politics in the history of South African surfing; most recently he published an article in the Journal of African Cultural Studies on the film Otelo Burning and Zulu surfing histories and is a contributor to The Critical Surf Studies Reader. He is currently completing a book on surfing and the making of the post-apartheid beach.
