Gaireyah Fredericks is from Paarl and self-published thirteen collections. Her debut anthology, Kaaps is Hollands and Mientjies was reviewed for the Eugene Marais literary prize. She received the Neville Alexander Prestige Prize and came 2nd in the Avbob poetry competition nationwide. She completed a BA-Honours in Afrikaans and graduated from Rhodes University with a Masters in Arts in Creative Writing. She translated Russell Kaschula’s Knife’s edge/Vlymskêp into Kaaps, as part of the Siyagruva youth collection. She currently works with the Western CapeUniversity on the Kaaps bilingual learning materials development project, and recently won the UJ-prize for debut Afrikaans literature and the Eugéne Marais literature prize for Afrikaans for her short story collection, Een voet innie kabr.
