Gabeba Baderoon is a poet and scholar. She is the author of the poetry collections, The Dream in the Next Body, A hundred silences, and The History of Intimacy, and the monograph, Regarding Muslims: From Slavery to Post-apartheid. With Desiree Lewis, she also co-edited the award-winning essay collection, Surfacing: On Being Black and Feminist in South Africa. Gabeba serves as Chair of the Board of New Contrast, South Africa’s oldest multilingual literary journal, now in its 66th year. She guest-edited issues 211 and 212 of the journal, which gathered tributes to the writers Diana Ferrus and Zoë Wicomb by eminent peers such as Koleka Putuma, Pumla Dineo Gqola, Damon Galgut, Gaireyah Fredericks, Toni Stuart, Grace Musila and others. Gabeba is at work on a new collection, titled “Autobiography of Sand: Relief Map of A Drifting Mind.”
