Funeka Soldaat is a lifelong activist, having worked as a senior outreach worker for the Triangle Project, as well as an educator for Rape Crisis. In 2010, Funeka co-founded Free Gender, a black lesbian organisation based in Khayelitsha which is a voice against hate crimes and violence directed towards black lesbians in South Africa. Funeka also continues to be a leader in a range of other community and advocacy structures in Khayelitsha and beyond around issues such as community policing and gender-based violence.
