Desiree Ellis is a former soccer star and now Head Coach for Banyana Banyana, who has been associated with the national women’s football team for 30 years. She has led the way in raising the profile of women’s football in South Africa, and across the continent, and was awarded the Order of Ikhamanga in Gold by President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this year. Both she and the national team, Banyana Banyana, departed to take part in the Women’s World Cup, facing their first game against Sweden on the 23rd of July.
