Carl Frode Tiller is and award-winning Norwegian writer. He is the author of five novels – the last three forming the Encircling trilogy – and four plays, all of which are written in the distinctive language of Nynorsk (‘new Norwegian’). He has received multiple prizes, including the European Union Prize for Literature and Nordic Critics Prize, and his Encircling trilogy has been twice nominated for the Nordic Council’s Prize. Set in Tiller’s provincial home town of Namsos, the trilogy is considered one of the great contemporary portraits of Nordic life. It has been adapted for the theatre and published in eighteen languages. It was translated into English by Barbara J Haveland.
