Andy Mason (N.D. Mazin, Pooh) has been drawing and publishing underground, agitprop and educational comics since the late 1970s. Co-Founder of CGIBA’s Comic Art Unit and co-organiser of the first Open Book comics festival, he has co-curated South African comics exhibitions and events, co-published comix ‘zines, including PAX (Pre-Azanian Comix), Mamba Comix and GrafLit, and co-
edited the political cartoon anthologies Don’t Joke! and Just For Kicks! His critical history of local comics and cartoons, What’s So Funny? Under the Skin of South African Cartooning, was published in 2010. Volume 1 of his collected underground comix, The Legend of Blue Mamba, was self-published in 2013, and he is presently working on the second volume, Poynton’s Quest. He is currently involved with AMAK (Azania Mania Art Kolektiv) and ToonZA, an action-packed comics workshop
programme which will be presenting three Monster Battle workshops at Comics Fest 2017.
