Akwasi is a successful Dutch artist, songwriter, actor and director (with Ghanaian roots) mostly known as the frontman of the Dutch hip hop group, Zwart Licht. A week after he started at the Theatre Academy in Maastricht in 2008, TopNotch/Universal offered him, Leeroy and producer Hayzee a record deal which resulted in three albums. In addition to his training at the Theatre Academy, he also joined theatergroup Likeminds in 2006 and did an internship at the internationally acclaimed Afrikaaps. Over the past 5 years he has also been the jury and coach of several music competitions.
His debut album “Daar Ergens” was released on his record label, Neerlands Dope, an independent label that was founded in 2013. The label will first release music by Akwasi and will then focus on new acts. The album’s release was accompanied by performances in various music venues and theaters where he brought theater and hip hop together.
