Abraham de Vries het reeds 20 kortverhaalbundels sedert sy debuut in 1956 gepubliseer. Hy is ook bekend as kontreiverhaalskrywer (die “plaaswinkelstories” uit die Klein Karoo), kenner van die kortverhaal en as samesteller, onder meer van die belangrike Die Afrikaanse kortverhaalboek. Sy werk is reeds met verskeie pryse vereer: Die bundel Tot verhaal kom is bekroon met die RAU Prys vir Skeppende Werk (nou die UJ-prys), De Vries het ook in 2010 ’n SALA-toekenning ontvang vir sy lewenslange bydrae tot die letterkunde, en in 2012 die Absa KKNK se Afrikaans Onbeperk-toekenning vir lewensbydrae. Hy woon in Kaapstad.
Abraham de Vries is an award-winning short story writer and has published 20 collections since his debut in 1956. He is much loved for his wonderfully humorous stories set in the Ladismith area of the Little Karoo. In more recent years he was awarded the RAU Prize ( now the UJ Prize) for Tot verhaal kom. He has also received a SALA and an Absa KKNK award for his contribution to Afrikaans literature. De Vries lives in Cape Town.
