Sjaan Flikweert is a dancer, poet and theatre maker who has been working on the cross over of writing/spoken word, dancing and theatre since 2009. She studied dance at the dance academy in Amsterdam, in New York at Alvin Ailey dance academy and L’ecole des Sables in Senegal. In 2009 she began working with Poetry Circle Nowhere and has since developed her own style, collaborated with several artists and won the national spoken word competition (2012). She has performed in the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, England, Italy, Brazil and South Africa and aims to contribute to the development of the oral and dance traditions in the Netherlands. Currently she is working with a group of artists on “Sites of Memory”, a theatrical boat ride on the Black Heritage tour in Amsterdam.
