Siphosethu Phikelela

Siphosethu Phikelela is a performance writer born in Knysna and currently based in Cape Town. She developed her love for literature from listening to fairytales at a young age  and wrote her first poem at age 13. She started slamming in 2015 and won the Grounding Sessions Preliminary Slam. She is the winner of the 2016 Open Book Festival Poetry Slam and Khayamandi Arts and Cultural Festival slam. She has been featured in Cape Town and Sparkling Women community activism magazine. Some of her work has been published in the C.Y.P.H.E.R’s Imbewu Yesini anthology and in which she is also an intern. In January 2017 she cofounded Imbewu Book Club and uses her gift as a tool of transformation in the  community she lives in. She writes exclusively in her mother tongue, isiXhosa and believes everyone should feel free to express themselves in a language they are at most comfortable with.
