Martinique Stilwell

martinique stilwell

Martinique Stilwell lived a gypsy childhood, sailing around the world with her family. This is recounted in her memoir, Thinking up a Hurricane. After her childhood adventures, she studied medicine at Wits University in Johannesburg and ending up in the Arctic, treating Inuit patients, canoeing with beluga whales and dodging the hungry polar bears which occasionally wandered into town.
